By coincidence, I ended up counting down to the demise of our remaining pet cat. On Wednesday night she had a second stroke which caused her to take off and hide under our bed for two days. Her hips were giving her pain, her kidneys were failing, and now she was highly anxious and would not let us near her. Friday night we decided it would be best to euthanize her. We called and made an appointment for 11:30, Saturday morning.
Suddenly, at 1 am, she came out from under the bed and wanted to eat. After eating, she curled up with my wife on the couch and both slept. We woke the kids up around 8 and told them that Peanuts was having a good morning, and they should come and spend some time with her. It was obvious that she was still having difficulty walking, and we figured it would be better to have one good morning with her and not let her suffer any more.
We spent the morning in silence, pampering her. Tears flowed. We had her for 17 good years, and neither child has known a day without her.
Despite the weather, she will be buried with her sibling on Sunday. Before the ground got cold, I had a grave dug ahead of time, and small coffin built.
I have to go wake the kids now, to get ready for the drive to the country.
I will leave this post up for a couple of days and then I shut the whole thing down. I will notify people of a new web page or blog I am developing.
Thanks for listening,
JD

This is Day 36 of the Ottawa Bus strike. The Mayor calls this an "inconvenience" for the city. On top of that, we clocked in at -26 (-15F) degrees celcius this morning. With the wind chill, it was more like -30 (-22F).
